Ben Rhydding 2nd XI 2-1 Otliensians 1st XI

In this their first game of the weekend Otliensians faced a very organised Ben Rhydding side. Otliensians tack ticks of a containment game paid off as their defence worked tirelessly against a torrid Rhydding attack. The only goal came mid-way through the first half for Rhydding, this only spurd on Otliensians who started to build on good defensive work through midfield and attack. Julia Ratahi found space on the right and linked well with Zoe Coates and Sarena Corney but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net. The second half was much like the first a very tight affair. Rhdding pushed forward only to be thwarted by the defence of Maggie Simpson, Dani Cox and Amy Rawson and some excellant saves by man of the match Tracy Hellewell in goal. Towards the end Otliensians got a break away and forced a corner only for the shot to go wide. A good performance by Otliensians but unlucky not to get a result for all their supporters.
Leeds Uni 2nd XI 0-6 Otliensians 1st XI

In their last game of the season Otliensians travelled to Harrogate last Sunday. Knowing a win would draw them level on points with Adel, Otliensians had to score 8 to keep them in the league. They started well with good surging runs from Becky Caisley and Sarena Corney making the Harrogate keeper work hard. The scoring was opened by Sarena Corney closely followed by a tap in by Alex Jewell. Otliensians were in thier stride now and looked like scoring every time they went forward, corney scored again before half time to take it to 3-0.
The second half started in the same vien for the visitors in rampant attact. The forth was scoredby Jewell who pushed the ball home after some penetrating work on the right by Zoe Coates. The next 2 goals came in quick succession from Becky Caisley and Sarena Corney. Man of the match Laura Tweddle had a goal dissallowed near the end making the final score 6-0. This was Otliensians best result of the season but tinged with dissapointnent as they dropped down on goal difference, on reflection Otliensians have applied themselves well in the premier league and hope to bounce straight back.

Leeds Uni 1st XI 3-1 Otliensians 1st XI


After a thursday night defeat to Wakefield and picking up some injuries to players, Otliensians visiited a youthful Leeds Uni side who were going for promotion. It was a case of damage limitation for the visiting side as Otliensians face a relegation battle with Adel therefore goal difference counts. Otliensians started the game with a player short but defencively found their feet and with good guidence from sweeper Dani Cox maintained the home side. Tireless work from man of the match Becky Caisley in midfield releived the pressure but Leeds were soon on the score sheet through a short corner. Once back to full strength Otliensians pushed forward and ceated chances. Otliensians defence marked well and with some excellant goal keeping by Tracy Hellewell the visitors only let in another goal, half time 2-0.
Otliensians started the second half with abit of self belief and sweeping one twos between Julia Ratahi and Becky Caisley found them asking questions of the Leeds Uni defence. The visitors gained a few short corners but were unable to convert. Another excellant save from Hellewell only saw the rebound go bobbling in. A through ball gave Otliensians their best scoring chance when the ball bounced off the post fooling the Uni keeper but unfortunately the Otiensians forwards wereless quick to react. A reflex save by Maggie Simpson pushing the ball over the bar kept Leeds from scoring again. Final score 3-0. A good team performance to take through to their final weekend of games against rivals Ben Rhydding and bottom of the table Harrogate,Otliensians will need some points out of these games for their survival

Otliensians 1st XI 2-5 Doncaster 2nd XI

Otliensians faced a very organised and fast Doncaster side last saturday. Doncaster soon scored and Oltiensians feared the worse, but managed to contain them with good defensive work by Dani Cox and Michelle Reeve. Otliensians got into their stride and put pressure on through sweeping moves by Serena Corney. Unfortunately Doncaster scored just before half time taking it up 2-0. Otliensians started the second half in a positive frame of mind surging forward at every opportunity. An explosive run from Serena Corney beating several defenders then found Jodi Rocket in space who scored. An unfortunate decision let Doncaster in to make it 3-1 this is resulted in a lapse of concentration for Otliensians who let in further goals. The homeside rallied towards the end a gave a short corner which Dani Cox converted. Final score 5-2.

Otliensians 1st XI 0-6 Boston Spa 1st XI

Otliensians entertained top of the league Boston Spa. After recent wins Otliensians started confidently, for the first 15 minutes the homeside contained Boston Spa. A sloppy goal allowed the visitors to get into their stride a second soon followed. Otliensians dug deep and flowing moves through opposition man of the match Becky Caisley created chances. Otliensians defense were under pressure, but man of the match Dani Cox kept them at bay. In the second half Boston Spa were rampent. Chances were few and far between for Otliensians with a Serena Corney cross travelling right across the face of goal eluding the forwards. Valiant efforts in goal by Tracey Hellewell were unrewarded as Boston got a few more goals.
Final scoree 0-6. Otliensians visit Leeds 1 on Saturday for hopefully a repeat performance.


Otliensians 1st XI 2-1 Leeds 1st XI


In this David and Goliath type fixture Otliensians faced a very fit and inform Leeds side. Leeds took control from the start and put Otliensians on the backfoot immediately. Stout defending by Dani Cox, Michelle Reeve and opposition player of the match Amy Rawson, kept them at bay.Midway through the first half Serena Corney made a break through the middle and put Maggie Simpson through on goal whos shot nutmegged the keeper and found the back of the net. Now on a high Oltiensians found themselves creating more chances and were nearly two up after a driving run from Becky Caisley was narrowly missed. Half time 1-0.

The second half started the way the first one ended fast and furious. Leeds really came at the homeside and scored fairly soon. Thinking they were in for a heavy defeat Oltiensians dug deep and with some reflex saves from Tracey Hellewell in goal they held the score at 1-1. Lucy Watson and player of the match Laura Tweedle worked hard in mid field thwarting many of the Leeds attacks and Caisley and Corney combined well upfront backing each other up and making goal scoring chances for Claire brook and Simpson. The winning goal came from a darting run by Julia Ratahi up the right for Simpson to take into the circle whos crossed was saved only for Tweedle to pounce on the loose ball and fire into the net. In the last 10 minutes Leeds piled on the pressure and there indiscipline showed. Oltliensians hung on to take a very deserved 3 points. An all round outstanding team performance.

Wakefield 4th XI 1-1 Otliensians 1st XI

After several weeks off due to the bad weather and a frustrating loss to Adel, Otliensians travelled to Wakefield. Otliensians started shakily thus allowing Wakefield to score. After this Otliensians settled to the task and started passing the ball around. Good work through man of the match Laura Tweddle and Julia Ratahi on the right sent Zoe Coates down the right wing causing havoc. Several crosses were made but unfortunately not connected with. The play was up and down which kept Michelle Reeve and Dani Cox on their toes in defense and some excellant stops by Tracy Hellewell in goal.
Otliensians started the second half where they left off driving forward taking the game to Wakefield. Hard work by midfield players Becky Caisley and Lucy Watson pushed them towards the Wakefield goal. An unfortunate injury to Dani Cox forced Oltiensians into a substitution and reshape of the team. Zoe Coates continued to pressure down the right wing and a cross found Maggie Simpson whos shot on goal was pushed in by Claire Brook. Oltiensians got a penalty corner in the dying minutes only for it to be saved. Final score 1 -1 and a deserved point for a good team performance.

Doncaster 2nd XI 6-2 Otliensians 1st XI

Otliensians travelled to Doncaster to face a young and fit Doncaster side. Stout defending by joint player of the match Dani Cox and Michelle Reeve, kept the homeside at bay.Otliensians found it hard to break through , which gave them few opportunities. Doncaster scored just before half time. A lack of concentration in the first five minutes in the second half, let Doncaster score twice. Otliensians settled down and moved up the right through Julia Ratahi and Jodie Rockett, but unfortunately they couldnt finish it off. A break away by Jodie Rockett found her one on one with the Goalkeeper who she cooly went round and slotted her. Doncaster continued to attack scoring more goals. A late penalty corner for Otliensians gave Dani Cox a goal.

Boston Spa 1st XI 7-2 Otliensians 1st XI

Otliensians travelled to face the well organised league leaders. The visitors started well and soon got into their stride. Julia Ratahi, Hayley Robinson and Jodie Rockett combined well on the right to create chances which narrowly missed. Boston Spa opened the scoring with a well worked move and clinical finish. Otliensians had to defend well with player of the match goalkeeper Tracy Hellewell making some vital saves to keep them in touch. Michelle Reeve and Dani Cox kept a keen defence and made important tackles with Lucy Watson clearing the ball out. Unfortunately Boston Spa scored from a corner just before half time to make it 2-0.

Otliensians came out fighting in the 2nd half with good spirit. 2 quick goals by the home side knocked Ensians abit but their heads didn't go down and Claire Brook scored from a rebound off a corner. Boston Spa's relentless pressure paid off as the goals went in. Otliensians managed to score again through a well worked move between Claire Brook and Sarina corney-with Corney finishing it off. Otliensians felt abit rail-roaded at the end conceeding 7 goals but for most of the game they competed well and should take some positives from their performance. Next week they entertain Leeds 1.

Otliensians 1st XI 1-2 Wakefield 3rd XI
Otliensians entertained Wakefield last saturday, in a fast and furious clash.Oltiensians started well with positive play with Julia Ratahi, Lucy Watson and Zoe Coats combining well and creating chances for the forwards. Against the runner play Wakefield scored this didnt deter Otliensians , with Serenaa Corney and Clare Brook coming close. Wakefield found their feet and got into the match, stout defending by Danny Cox and player of the match goal keeper Tracy Hellewell kept them at bay. Unfotunately Wakefield scored again just before half time.

The second half Otliensians came out fighting with slick passes between the midfield and forwards Otliensians scored through Clare Brook from a rebound off a corner. Otliensians were all over Wakefield in the last 15 minutes but chances didnt go their way. Final score 2-1. Otliensians visit top of the table Boston Spa next week.

Otliensians 1st XI 1-1 Ben Rhydding 2nd XI

With players back and subs on the bench, Otliensians faced Ben Rhydding in the local derby. Ben Rhydding started well, putting quite a few attacks together only to be thwarted by sound defensive work, by man of the match Laura Tweedle. Ensians weathered the storm and were soon on the attack with Julia Ratahi and Serena Corney pushing forward. This was a ping pong game with Ensians attacking then Ben Rhydding attacking and Dani Cox had to be on her toes in defense even clearing off the line from a penalty corner. Half time score 0-0.

The second half started in the same vain, fast and furious with both sides not wanting to make any mistakes. Good saves by Tracey Hellewell in goal kept the visitors at bay for so long but midway through the second half Ben Rhydding scored. This didnt deter the Ensians who powered forward with Becky Caisley, Hayley Robinson and Jodie Rockett causing mayhem in the Rhydding defense a free hit was awarded and Rockett took it in for Claire Brook to fire home. Final Score 1-1 in a pulsating game of Hockey.

OTLEY 1st XI 5-0 HARROGATE 2nd XI

On a very wet and blustery day Otley entertained Harrogate 2. Otley attacked from the start and were soon in front when Becky Caisley struck the ball through a crowd of players and found the net. Otley's second came from persistant play by Julia Ratahi on the right who crossed the ball for Hayley Robinson to slap the ball home. Otley were now on the rampage, their 3rd was slotted home at close range by Claire Brook off another pinpointed cross by Ratahi. Their 4th came just before half time after Caisley picked up the ball in midfield and crossed for Robinson to tap in her 2nd. This finished off a great passage of play for Otley with all the team blending well.
Otley started the 2nd half knowing that Harrogate were rattled and had to defend well. Timely tackles by Michelle Reeve and Lucy Watson kept Harrogate at bay. Harrogate took the game to Otley and the play was end to end. Tracy Hellewell made a terrific save in goal mid-way through the half to keep a clean sheet. Otley's next attack gained them a penalty corner which Dani Cox cooly struck home to make it 5. Otley had to defend to the end to keep Harrogate out. Man of the match points went to Hayley Robinson,Becky Caisley and Dani Cox from the opposition.
