Otliensians
1st XI 7 - 0
Sheffield Bankers 1st XI
Otliensians took a while to settle down and
found themselves under pressure defending several short corners. They
began to work the ball through to midfield for player of the match Sarina
Corney to crack in Otliensians' first goal. Play continued with equal
pressure on both goals however Otliensians were able to see the fruits
of their labour as Sarina Corney beat the keeper again. Sheffield Bankers
continued to press Otliensians but strong defensive play by bride to be
Maggie Joce and opposition player of the match Katherine Jury, kept Otliensians
in the lead. Excellent passing play resulted in Claire Brook placed in
a strong scoring position and maintained her composure to score Otliensians
third goal from a back stick flick. Half-time score 3-0.
With Otliensians' spirits riding high,
they were able to keep up their momentum with an early fourth goal from
Jodie Rockett. Sheffield continued to try and work the ball around Otliensians'
defence but Katherine Jury thwarted every attempt. Midfield continued
to feed the ball through to the front line where Otliensians' attackers
were lined up. Claire Brook knocked in her second goal and Otliensians'
confidence went off the scales. Fancying her second hat-trick in two weeks,
Sarina Corney persisted to score Otliensians' sixth goal. Sheffield did
not give up and made defender Crystal Gale work hard to keep the score
sheet clean. After several earlier attempts on goal by Hayley Robinson,
her determination paid off as she scored Otliensians' seventh and final
goal. Again, a truly impressive team performance. Otliensians Hockey club
would like to send their best wishes to Maggie Joce and Steve Simpson
who will be married this weekend.

Otliensians
1st XI 6 - 2
Sheffield Hallam 3rd XI
Otliensians started this match with only ten
players due to half term holidays. Being one defender down, Otliensians
knew they had to go out on the attack and they did this with a surprising
opening goal from Sarina Corney. An unfortunate injury to Dani Cox temporarily
reduced Otliensians to nine players however, this only served to inspire
Otliensians and on their next attack, Sarina Corney beat two defenders
and deftly slid the ball into the goal. Otliensians defence soaked up
the counterattacks with good defensive play from Maggie Joce, Sue Wood,
Opposition Player of the Match Dani Cox and rookie keeper Katherine Jury.
A breakaway ball found Jodie Rockett in space who finished with a trademark
goal into the top of the net. Shortly before half-time, Sheffield pulled
back two goals. Half-time score 3-2.
Otliensians started the second half strongly
and shocked Sheffield with a superbly worked team goal which Jodie Rockett
converted. With midfielders Lucy Watson and Julia Ratahi picking off Sheffield
attacks and with Sheffield's frustration mounting, Otliensians pushed
on. Excellent distribution play from Hayley Robinson ensured Otliensians
kept their foot on the gas which resulted in Claire Brook tapping in Hayley
Robinson's cross. Slick passing amongst the team enabled Player of the
Match Sarina Corney to finish her outstanding performance by swiping the
sixth goal into the top of the net to complete her hat trick.
An all round blistering performance by
all ten players.

Otliensians
1st XI 1 - 0
Ben Rhydding 3rd XI
Otliensians started with determination to beat
local rivals Ben Rhydding and applied pressure from the start. They settled
themselves and began creating goal opportunities with player of the match
Crystal Gale working well with Maggie Joce to drive the ball into attacking
play. A sturdy opposition defence kept Otliensians at bay but they persevered.
Otliensians' goal came from a cross from Julia Ratahi which found Lucy
Watson in space who slammed it in. Half-time score 1-0.
Ben Rhydding started the second half
by applying pressure on Otliensians' defence. However, with keeper Naomi
Burden playing out of her skin and Michelle Reeve picking off attacks
down the right, the opposition were unable to convert. In the last fifteen
minutes, Ben Rhydding increased the pressure but Otliensians held firm
and continued to create chances with Dani Cox narrowly missing by hitting
the post. Otliensians hung in for a well deserved victory.

Otliensians 1st
XI 1 - 1
Thirsk 1st XI
Otliensians started their league campaign against
Thirsk on and found themselves under pressure from the off however, effective
communication soon settled them down. New player and player of the match,
Crystal Gale settled well in to her new position, thwarting several attacks.
Otliensians found their form and distributed the ball to their forwards
who created several chances. Half-time score 0-0.
With several injuries ensuing and without substitutes,
Otliensians were reduced to ten players at times. They battled on and
earned a penalty corner for Dani Cox to convert. This rattled the opposition
even more who retaliated with waves of attacks. Otliensians' defence stood
firm with keeper Naomi Burden and defenders Michelle Reeve and Maggie
Joce driving the ball out of defence. Thirsk equalised despite the continued
pressure being applied.
Otliensians walked away from the game
with their first point of the season and very tired legs. Final score
1-1.
